Guthierry Barbosa | LA PRO
Guthierry started the year off in amazing fashion winning just about everything he entered. At 17 years old, he took the leap to follow his dream and traveled from Brazil to compete at this years worlds. This was the first year he was allowed to compete in the adult division and after 7 matches was crowned the 2016 blue belt world champion. Shortly after, he was awarded his purple belt by his brother, Diego Bispo and he moved to San Jose to train under the guidance and tutelage of Professor Caio Terra.
"The greatest test of courage on earth is to bear defeat without losing heart. "Robert ~Green Ingersoll
As a new purple belt he saw his winning streak end, after a victory in Berkut he was caught in his very first match at the ADCC grand slam . When most would make excuses or find a reason in their loss, Guthierry went back to work.
This past weekend he traveled down to LA for the 2016 IBJJF LA Pro. After winning his division he competed in the open against one of his biggest challenges to date, World and European champion Kennedy Maciel. After a very close match, Guthierry came out with the victory, and would go on to take double gold!
Huge congrats Guthierry, keep working hard, chasing your dreams and persevering. OSS!
